Thalapothichil is mainly done in Psychosomatic Disorders, in this particular treatment medicated Kalka(Paste) is applied over the head and is covered with a plantain leaf.

Indications:- Insomnia, Psychiatric Diseases.

Ingredients:- Powders(Choorna) of Amalaki(Gooseberry), Musta, Kushmanda, Mandukaparni, Brahmi, Panchaganda Choorna.

Procedure:-

Patient is allowed to sit comfortably(It is advised to remove hair to get a full fledged effect).

Patient is massaged on the head with lukewarm oil and mild fomentation is given.

Above the level of Ears and Eye brows a cloth is tied around the head

Then the paste that is already prepared by mixing powders of (Choorna) of Amalaki(Gooseberry), Musta, Kushmanda, Mandukaparni, Brahmi, Panchaganda Choorna with Buttermilk is pasted thickly on the Scalp.

It should be paste in such a order that paste is first applied on the front followed by Right side, followed by Back side, followed by left side so that a small central portion is left unpasted.

Now Oil for Thala is poured to this Central portion.

With the mentioned leaf, paste is covered completely and after covering the paste with leaf another cloth strand is tied above this leaf to keep it in position.

This paste should be kept for a Duration of 30 – 60min, after the stipulated time period paste should be completely removed and Rasnadi Choorna(Rasnadi Powder) is applied over the Vertex.

In Keraliya Panchakarma, Masthishkya is mentioned as Thalam. In case of Thalam Kalka(Paste) medicated with medicinal herbs is applied on the Scalp for a particular period of time.

Indications:- Psychiatric Disorders, Insomnia, Skin Disease, Dandruff, Psychosomatic Disease, Headache, Migraine, Sinusitis, Facial Palsy.

Ingredients:- Amalaki Choorna(Powder of Gooseberry), Butter Milk

Preparation:- A paste is made by boiling Powder of Gooseberry(Amalaki Choorna) in Buttermilk till the whole buttermilk is evaporated.

Procedure:-

Before Starting the procedure, patient is anointed with Sneha(Oleation) on Head and body.

After proper Oleation he should be seated in a stool and the mixture is applied over the vertex of the head in 3 – 5 cms thick in diameter.

It is recommended that while applying the medicated paste slight body massage can be done to the patient meanwhile.

This should be retained for 45 – 90 mins, and after this stipulated time the paste is removed from head and the Vertex is rubbed with dry cloth. In Patients who are contra indicated for bathing, Rasnadi Choorna is applied on the head.

Dalhana called Mastishkya as a type of Sirobasthi, In case of Mastishkya procedure, Sneha or Sneha that is mixed with Kalka(Medicines in semi – solid form) is kept on the head for a particular period of time

Karna Poorana

In Karna Poorana procedure, patients ear is filled with Sneha(Medicated Oil) which is lukewarm for a particular period of time.

Benefits and Indications:- Manyagraha, Hanugraha(Stiffness of Jaw and stiffness in backside of the Neck), Badhirya(Deafness), Vataja Karna Roga(Ear disease of Vataja nature), Pain in Jaw, Pain in Neck, Pain In Head, Pain in Ear, Karna Nada, Tinnitus.

 

Procedure:-

Patient is made to lie down in Supine position and massage is done over Neck, Ear and its surrounding area

Followed by this Mild fomentation is done over the above mentioned places

Now Patient is advised to lie down in lateral position and mediated lukewarm oil is slowly poured over the wall of external ear after pouring it should be retained for 5 – 10mins.

After the stipulated time, the same procedure is performed on the other ear.

Akshi Tarpana

The Literary meaning of Tarpana is “to Nourish”, in case of Tarpana a compact dough wall is made around the eyes and Medicated Ghee or Grhitha manda is retained in eyes for a mentioned period of a time meanwhile patient is asked to open and close his Eyes and there by which eyes get nourished with the help of fatty materials.

Tarpana Alleviates redness of affected eyes, alleviates burning and itching sensation, annihilates the swelling, pain, lacrimation and mucous secretion.

Indications:- Krichronmilana, Sirotpata, Siraharsha, Arjuna, Sukra, Timira, Abhishyanda, Adhimantha, Anyatovata, Vataparyaya, Vattika & Paittika disease of the eyes, Abhigathaja Akshi(Injured Eyes), Inflammatory conditions of Eyes, Patient visualising darkness in front of the eyes, Eyes defiecient in lacrimation, Dry Eyes, Hard lids with falling of eyelashes, Dirty Eyes, Squint Eyes.

Tarpana should not be done in person suffering from anxiety, tiredness, Giddiness and it should not be performed in a Cloudy or Very hot or Cold day.

 

Procedure:- Patient who had already undergone Shodhana of Sira and Kaya(Body) should lie on his back. Patient is given Swedana(Fomentation) with cotton soaked in lukewarm water. A Dough wall is made up of Black Gram(Masha) around the eyes till a height of 2Angula. With the patients eyes in closed condition, liquefied medicated Ghee or Ghritha manda is poured over the closed eyes in a slow manner until it covers the entire eyelashes.

After Pouring, patient is asked to blink his eyes continuously and the ghee is retained for a stipulated time.

After the mentioned time, the medicated ghee is drained out through a hole made near the outer canthus and the eyes is washed with Triphala Kashaya or Lukewarm water.

 

Symptoms of Properly done Tarpana:- Sound Sleep, Blissful Awakening, Cessation of Secretion, Clarity of Vision, Discernment of Individual colors, Lightness of eye, Proper functioning of eyes, Ability to tolerate Sunlight.

According to Condition, the procedure can be performed for One day, Three days or Five days.

Duration according to conditions:-

Healthy:- 500 Matra Kala

Kapha Predominant:- 600 Matra Kala

Pitta Predominant:- 800 Matra Kala

Vata Predominant:- 1000 Matra Kala

Sandhigata roga:- 300 Matra Kala

Vartmagata roga:- 100 Matra Kala

Suklagata roga:- 500 Matra Kala

Krishnagata roga:-700 Matra Kala

Drishtigata roga:- 800 Matra Kala

Adhimantha roga:- 1000 Matra Kala\

Vyaghradi Kashaya

 

Vyaghradi Kashaya is mentioned in Ashtanga Hrudaya Jwara Chiktsa Adhikara, it has got actions like Deepana – Pachana(Action as an Appetizer and digestive), Mutrala(Diuretic), Relieves body pain and swelling.

Indications:- Vatakaphaja Jwara(Fever), Swasa(Dyspnoea), Kasa(Cough), Peenasa(Rhinitis), Sula(Body pain).

Ingredients:- Vyaghri, Sunthi, Amrtha.
