The plant found through out the plains and lower hills of India, particularly in riverbank and rich marshy sail.
Botanical name ‘Vetiveria zizanoids’ belonging to family graminae. The most useful part is roots. The roots are used for the substitutes of aromatic oil in the treatment of Krimiroga.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF USIRA
Usira (Vetiveria zizanoides) contains velatile oil a bitter dark red brown resinous matter, a colouringmatter, freeacids, calacium salts, iron ash and woofy substances.
Diextrorotatory vetiver oil and laevorotatory oil are rich source at several chemical constituents vetiver resinoides has specific character.
It also contains some other chemicals.

PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES AND ACTION
The drug usira is a sevedopanayana that cheeks over sweating of body. It is varnya or promoting complexion and skin pigmentation and health as whole and the drug alleviates burning sensation and cutaneous infection.
The usira jala, usira kasaya, Kvatha usira stra sita kasaya and similar therapeutic uses.
The drug is useful in syncope, unconsciousness brain complaints, dyspepsia, excess thirsts vomiting diarrhea, intrinsic hemorrhage, cough hiccough, asthma, bronchial asthma, dysuria foul of body sweating, fever, complication of thirst burning sensation, vomiting etc.

MEDICINAL USES
The long fibrous root of this plant is mostly used for making door screens or aeromatic .Scented mats-they are kept constantly wet thus cooling and agreeably pertaining the atmosphere during the hot weather
The palv of the root is cooling is cooling , refrigent diuretic stimulant and tonic .The dose is 20 grains and the infusion which is made by datting 2 drachms of the grass to 10 ounces of water the dose is from 1-20 ocnces. Beeing a cooling medicine it proves beneficial in fevers , inflamation and opperassive heat or burning of the body paste of the roots is prepared by mixing it by mixing with red sandal wood and padmakashtha (all in powder) in a rub water
