Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted.
Usually Leg muscles pump the veins to return blood to the heart against the effects of gravity and Veins have pairs of leaflet valves to prevent blood from flowing backwards. In Varicose vein it affects the functioning of these valves , When veins become varicose the leaflets of the valves no longer meet properly, and the valves do not work. Causing blood to flow backwards and end up in vein enlargement even more. Varicose veins are most common in the superficial veins of the legs, which are subject to high pressure when standing.
Usually this Varicose vein lie symptom-less except cosmetic problems, It can land up in Complications later like pain especially when standing, swelling, burning sensation, venous eczema, skin thickening and ulceration
Treatment in Ayurveda:-
Inorder to correct circulatory failure that particular extremity should be given sweating (Svedana) by transforming heat through a cloth dipped in hot water or by other methods.
Later that complete extremity on the course of blood vessels should be applied with medicated ayurvedic medicated oil which is heated and should be massaged to and fro.
These two above mentioned methods will increase blood flow, remove the sediments from blood vessels, dialates the blood vessels.
Blood Letting Methods:-
Blood letting is an effective method for Varicose Vein
There are two methods mainly:-
First Method:-
Letting blood using an instrument( Kuthari Yantra)
This should be done at the day hours, First Inorder to correct circulatory failure that particular extremity should be given sweating (Svedana) by transforming heat through a cloth dipped in hot water or by other methods.
And a sharp instrument is kept near the vessel with its pointed end touching the vessel, a sudden tap is done on the posterior side of the instrument which will make the pointed part to puncture the vessel
Since by puncturing the vessel impure blood with the residues that were sedimented in the vessel comes out and the bleeding stop by its own.
Now a days blood is removed by inserting 18 no: needle on that vessel opposite to the course of blood flow.
Second Method:-
By using Leach that sucks blood.
When leaches are applied to the vessel it removes the impure blood.
The anti – coagulant that is transferred from the leach to the vessel removes the chance for cloating particle in the vessels.
By Sucking the stagnant residues from the vessels are also removed
Internal Medicine:-
Rasna erandadi Kashaya along with Kaishora guggulu is very useful since it liquefies the stagnant particles of vessels and purify the blood.
