What is in Oroxylum indicum Tablets ?

The Oroxylum indicum plant is, also known as the Indian trumpet tree. It is known as Shyonaka in Ayurveda. It is an important medicinal plant with long-standing traditional uses. Native to the Indian subcontinent, this plant has spread to Sri Lanka and China. Its medicinal properties are rooted in the plant’s chemical constituents, the most abundant of which are flavonoids. Flavonoids are found in nearly every part of the plant, including the leaves, stem, and roots.

Shyonaka in Ayurveda

The shyonaka tree is a perennial plant with pinnate leaves that grow from eight to fifteen meters. The leaflets are four to eight centimeters long and pinnately divided into 3-5 pairs. The flowers of the Shyonaka tree are reddish-purple and about one foot long. The stem bark, or kashaya, also contains significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

The plant is called Shyonaka in Sanskrit, and is a synonym of Oroxylum indicum L. Kurz. It is commonly found in South India, in states like Karnataka and Kerala. Shyonaka roots contain oroxylin and undergo a pungent bio transformation known as katu vipaka. Its cold potency makes it useful in treating diarrhoea and rheumatism.

Shyonaka has several names. Its bark contains astringent and bitter substances that act to promote digestion. It also regulates the three doshas. The Bhavprakash nighantu, a text that has elaborated commentaries in Hindi, describes the properties of Shyonaka in detail. Its use as a tonic in the treatment of fever and cough is a prime example of its uses in Ayurveda.

Medicinal Benefits of Shyonaka

Oroxylum indicum contains 111 different compounds, with flavonoids and naphthalenoids being the predominant groups. Some of its benefits are anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, and aphrodisiac. In a recent study, a small group of people taking Oroxylum indicum tablets for six months showed significant reductions in inflammation, pain, and depression.

Ethanolic extracts of Oroxylum indicum are associated with a significant reduction in the MDA content and increase catalase. MDA is a measurable marker of oxidative damage in cells. Catalase, an intracellular anti-oxidant, helps stop rheumatoid arthritis from developing.

Researches about Shyonaka

The use of Oroxylum indicum has been studied for more than a century. The leaves have been tested for effects on the central nervous system and epilepsy. Its standardized extract is called Sabroxy(r). The active ingredient is oroxylin-A, which inhibits adipogenesis in vitro. It is known to cause minor headaches, diarrhea, and nausea.

This herbal extract reduces ROS levels in human cells. In a recent study, it was found to reduce MDA and LDH levels in mice after treatment with a dose of oroxylum indicum. Although more research is needed, there are already some promising results. In vitro and human studies, this plant extract is used to treat many conditions, including cancer. But side effects of oroxylum indicum tablets are not limited to cancer.

In human trials, Oroxylum indicum has positive effects on cognitive performance. In one study, adults with self-reported cognitive complaints experienced greater improvements than those without. However, this herbal supplement is not a cure for Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. In addition to clinical trials, further research should be performed on a diverse population and at different dosages. The drug’s effects on cognitive performance must be examined in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.
